Mumbai, July 24: An Anju-like case has been reported again and this time in Maharashtra. A 23-year-old woman in Thane travelled to Pakistan to marry her boyfriend whom she met on Instagram. She allegedly created fake documents under a false identity to secure a passport and visa to visit Pakistan. An FIR was registered on July 20 against the woman, identified as Nagma Noor Maksood Ali alias Sanam Khan, and the shopkeeper who allegedly assisted her in obtaining the fake documents. They are being investigated for cheating, forgery, and violating the Indian Passport Act.

According to police officials, she allegedly changed her name, obtained fake Aadhaar and PAN cards, and forged new birth certificates for her daughters from a centre in Lokmanya Nagar. Using these fake documents, she applied for a passport and passed police verification. According to a report by India.com, the accused, Nagma Noor Maksood Ali alias Sanam Khan, hails from Uttar Pradesh, and she moved to Thane with her mother to escape her alleged abusive husband. How Was She Caught?

By last October, she finished the process, travelled to Abbottabad with her daughters on a one-month visa, and married the man. She applied for a six-month visa extension but was denied. The Indian High Commission alerted central agencies about her extension attempt, prompting authorities to dig into her details. Her fraud was uncovered when she returned to Thane in November after her mother fell ill. An FIR was registered against her, and the man who helped her forged the documents, under the Indian Passports Act. No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation continues.
