Mumbai, August 30: The Mumbai police recently arrested a man for allegedly assaulting and locking a stray dog in Malad. The accused, identified as Subhashkumar Gaud, was arrested for animal cruelty. Police officials said that the accused reportedly kicked the start dog before dragging the animal and detaining it for nearly an hour.

According to a report in the Times of India, Gaud allegedly kicked the stray dog and later dragged the animal into a BMC pump house room in Malad East. An officer also said the accused had reportedly detained the dog for nearly 45 minutes. However, an FIR filed with the Kurar police states that the stray dog was kicked and dragged into a room. As per the complaint, the incident occurred around 9.35 pm on August 27. After being locked, the stray dog was rescued by activists with the help of a local policeman.

In a similar incident, a 35-year-old woman was booked for allegedly throwing acid on a dog in Malad. The police registered an FIR against the woman after the dog's caretaker, Balasaheb Tukaram Bhagat (53), lodged a complaint against her. In his complaint, Bhagat claimed that the woman threw acid on the dog as she believed that the canine was harassing the cats. The entire incident was recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the society. The woman, identified as Sabista Suhail Ansari, reportedly threw acid on a dog named "Brownie".
