Mumbai, September 4: In a shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh, a newborn baby girl was reportedly found abandoned near a hospital in Chittoor. Police officials said the newborn baby was allegedly found abandoned in a narrow open drain near Government Area Hospital in Chittoor district. The incident took place on Sunday, September 3. However, the newborn girl was rescued by the locals.
According to a report in the Times of India, the incident came to light when a few passers-by heard the baby's cry. On inspecting, the passers-by found the baby girl lying in a drain. They immediately rescued the newborn girl and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was administered emergency care. Speaking about the incident, hospital staff and locals said that a woman had visited the hospital on Sunday morning, claiming her baby had died. Later, cops learned that the woman who came to the hospital and admitted herself was the mother of the abandoned child. After the incident came to light, cops said they would examine CCTV footage of the area in and around the hospital to ascertain who abandoned the newborn baby in the drain. An officer privy to the case also said the newborn baby girl could have been born to an unwed mother. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and have also begun investigating the case.
