Eluru, May 24: In a shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district, a girl studying in class 7 was allegedly raped by her schoolmate in a classroom in a Government High School. Four other accused, who followed them, allegedly took video of the crime in their mobile phones.
According to a report in The Hindu, the 15-year-old boy who raped the 13-year-old girl has been detained. The four friends of the accused who recorded the rape on their mobile phones to blackmail the victim’s parents were also arrested. Police said that the accused had circulated the video of the sex assault on WhatsApp after the parents failed to give in to their demand of Rs 2 lakh. The incident occurred in the school located in Mandavilli town on May 15 but came to light after the survivor’s parents filed a police complaint on Wednesday. According to Mandavalli police sub-inspector (SI) Ramachandra Rao, the girl had completed her Class 7 examinations in March and was visiting the school to collect her marksheet when a senior student from Class 10 and four other men dragged her into an empty classroom. While the teenage boy raped her, the four men filmed the act on their mobile phones. The school was closed for summer vacations, and there were no teachers or staff members present during the incident. Subsequently, all the accused allegedly blackmailed the survivor’s family, demanding Rs 2 lakh. When the girl’s family failed to arrange the money promptly, the accused circulated the video of the assault on WhatsApp.
Unable to bear the humiliation, the girl’s family approached the police at Mandavalli police station on Wednesday morning. The accused were apprehended shortly after the complaint was registered, and the girl underwent a medical examination.
As per legal proceedings, the juvenile has been booked for rape (section 375 of the Indian Penal Code or IPC), while the four men face charges under sections 354 c (filming a private incident without consent), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 109 (abetment of crime) of the IPC, as well as section 14 and 15 of the Protection Of Child against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
The boy was sent to a juvenile home, and the remaining accused—Balasubrahmanyam (22), Chandrasekhar (22), Teja (19), and Harikrishna (20)—were arrested and produced before an Eluru court, which remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days.
