Mumbai, June 4: The Andhra Pradesh assembly elections results 2024 will be announced today, June 4. The 175-member assembly went to the polls on Monday, May 13. In addition to assembly elections, 25 Lok Sabha seats also went to the polls on May 13, with Andhra Pradesh recording an 81.86 per cent voter turnout. This year, Andhra Pradesh recorded a voting turnout of 81.86 per cent in the 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats during the May 13 elections in the state. Notably, Andhra Pradesh witnessed the polling percentage rise by 2.09 per cent compared to previous elections. In 2019, the Southern State registered a 79.77 per cent voter turnout, while in 2014, the voter percentage was 78.41 per cent. According to Mukesh Kumar Meena, Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh, the Darsi Assembly seat recorded the highest voter turnout at 90.91 per cent. In comparison, Tirupati registered the lowest polling percentage, 63.32 per cent.
Key Candidates in Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections 2024:
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president, N Chandrababu Naidu, former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, and Pawan Kalyan, actor and Jana Sena founder were the key candidates among the 2,387 candidates who are in the fray for the 175 Assembly seats. Other prominent candidates include Naidu's brother-in-law and popular actor N Balakrishnan, Nara Lokesh, Reddy’s sister, and state Congress chief Sharmila Reddy. As per the seat-sharing agreement, the TDP contested on 144, JSP on 21 and BJP on 10 assembly seats. On the other hand, the INDIA Bloc alliance saw Congress fielding candidates on 159 assembly seats and leaving 8 seats each for its allies CPI and CPI-M. This year, the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections witnessed a two-way battle between the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the NDA alliance comprising TDP, Jana Sena and the BJP. In the 2019 assembly election in Andhra Pradesh, the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP wrested power from the TDP by bagging 151 assembly seats out of the 175. Back then, the ruling TDP won 23 seats, while Jana Sena managed to secure one seat. The TDP, JSP and the BJP joined hands to take on the YSRCP.
