Amravati, June 26: The demolition of an upscale building constructed by former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Amravati was underway on Wednesday morning. The venue was used by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief to meet public, hold press conferences and for other administrative work. The demolition was ordered by current CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, who claimed it to be "illegal".
The building, Praja Vedika convention hall, is located near Naidu's residence, which YSR Congress Party supremo has claimed to be constructed illegally and was built in 2017. The project was estimated for Rs five crore but the cost scaled up to Rs eight crore. Last week, Reddy held a meeting with district collectors where he announced the razing of 'Praja Vedika'. Chandrababu Naidu Will Have to Vacate His Undavalli House, Says YSRCP MLA.
Tweet by ANI:
Naidu had earlier written to the new CM to allow him to retain the hall so he could work from there as Leader of Opposition in the state assembly. "I wish to continue the same arrangement, that the 'Praja Vedika' be declared as the residence annexe of the leader of the opposition, to facilitate me to meet legislators, visitors, common public and discharge my duties," he wrote.
In Assembly Polls, YSR Congress dominated with a landslide victory and voted out Naidu's TDP. YSRCP also defeated TDP in Lok Sabha Elections, winning 22 of 25 parliamentary seats to become the fourth largest in Parliament, behind Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and the DMK.
