Mumbai, December 18: A day after the massive fire at ESIC Kamgar Hospital in Andheri's Marol area in Mumbai – which killed eight people and injured 157, Union Minister Santosh Gangwar announced Rs 10 lakh for the families who lost their lives, Rs 2 lakh for those with severe injuries and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.

Earlier, two people succumbed to injuries on Tuesday morning, while six died on Monday. According to the reports, among the deceased include a six-month-old baby. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained, but the fire officials say that ESIC Kamgar Hospital did not obtain a final No Objection Certificate (NOC). Andheri Fire: Death Toll Rises to Eight, ESIC Kamgar Hospital Did Not Have Fire NOC.

Speaking to the reporters, Deputy Fire Officer of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) MB Ogale said, “They (hospital authorities) have applied for the final NOC but compliances were not in line with the provisions of the act and hence they have not been given final NOC by us. Our building proposal department has also not given final occupation certificate.”

The 'Level 3' fire broke out fire reportedly broke out near the operation theatre of the five-storey ESIC Kamgar Hospital at around 4 pm and quickly spread horizontally and vertically, trapping around 155 people.

Though ten fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire, patients trapped inside the state government-run hospital jumped from the out of the fourth-floor window, in which one was killed.
