Pune, February 2: The Pune Sessions Court on Saturday ordered to release Dalit scholar Anand Teltumbde, an accused in the Elgar Parishad case. Teltumbde arrested earlier today by the Pune police for his alleged Naxal links. He was arrested by the police at the Mumbai airport after his arrival from Kerala. The professor’s arrest comes just a day after a special court in Pune rejected his request for anticipatory bail. His lawyer termed the arrest as illegal. The Supreme Court had given him protection from arrest till February 11, reported ANI. Meanwhile, he can approach the competent authority for bail/pre-arrest bail.
Yesterday, the special Pune court while rejecting Teltumbde’s bail application has said that there is enough and more evidence to show his role in the conspiracy. Meanwhile, on Thursday The prosecution submitted an envelope in the Pune court containing “evidence’, reported The Times of India. The prosecution claimed that the evidence submitted would prove his involvement in Naxal activities. According to the Pune police, the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Shani Wada in the city on December 31, 2017, was supported by the Naxals and the inflammatory speeches at the event led to violent clashes at the Bhima-Koregaon war memorial on January 1, 2018. In the clashes, one person died and over 30 people injured.
