In the inquiry, the sources said, Navjot Kaur cannot be held responsible as she was the chief guest and chief guest visits the event where they are invited. While Sidhu got clean chit because he was not present in Amritsar that day. Sourab Mithu Madan, the local organiser, has been indicted in the tragic mishap as he should have ensured the safety of the people as he had chosen the venue, stated the inquiry. Navjot Kaur Sidhu while speaking on reports of being given a clean chit in Magistrate inquiry said, "If I am called to attend an event and an incident takes place there, then how am I responsible for it? These are attempts to malign the name of the Sidhu family."
Earlier, Navjot Singh Sidhu termed the incident as unfortunate. During his visit to the Civil Hospital, where injured were shifted, Sidhu said, “It was a sad and an unfortunate incident. It is necessary to understand that it was an accident. There has been negligence, but it was never intentional or motivated.”
The magistrate in his reports also indicted local authorities stating that they should have checked whether the arrangements were adequate to handle such a big crowd and there was no threat to people. The local administration had granted permission to the event organiser with a rider that they should also get permission from the municipal corporation, failing which the local administration’s approval would be considered null and void, reported Indian Express.
