Amritsar Shocker: Elderly Man Allegedy Rapes 9-Year-Old Girl in Baba Deep Singh Colony, Arrested Under POCSO Act

Amritsar, September 26: In a shocking incident in Punjab, a 9-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an elderly man in Amritsar. Vinod Sharma, station house officer of Sadar Police Station, said that the alleged rape occurred on Monday, September 23. However, Sharma also said that the victim's parents reported the incident late as they were worried about social stigma.

According to a report in The Times of India, the incident occurred at Baba Deep Singh Colony, Fatehgarh Churian Road. Police officials said that the victim’s family and the alleged accused are migrants. The rape incident came to light when the minor girl had persistent vomiting. In no time, the news spread among locals, who gathered and confronted the elderly man. The residents of the area thrashed the elderly man, who is said to be over eighty years of age, before handing him over to the police. The locals demanded the police charge the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

During the preliminary investigation, cops learned that the victim's father works as a gardener while the accused is a retired gardener who works in people's homes. The arrested accused has been identified as Chotu Lal. Meanwhile, the police have initiated a medical examination of the victim and launched a probe into the incident.
