Amritsar, February 24: In the wake of increasing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct a mock drill in Amritsar on Wednesday night, reported PTC News. Locals are asked not to panic due to the sirens during the mock drill. Deputy Commissioner Shivdular Singh Dhillon had a meeting today with the officials of various departments including health, education and civil defence to deal with extreme situations if the tension between both countries escalates. Pakistan Does a U-Turn, Now Says 'Only 1 IAF Pilot In Custody'.

According to the report, heavy police deployment was witnessed at every corner of the city. The DC siad that though there is no possibility of war, but considering the current scenario they need to prepare for every situation. During the meeting, Dhillon told officials that citizens’ security should be the top priority of the administration. He also asked officials of various departments to chalk out plans so that in case of extreme situation, people living in border areas could easily be evacuated to safer zones. People were also advised not to believe in any rumours.

Meanwhile, a day after Indian Air Force (IAF) destroyed terror Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camps in Pakistan’s Balakot, Muzaffarabad and Chakothi, on Wednesday, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) violated the Indian air space. In the engagement one PAF’s F-16 fighter jet was shot down. Meanwhile, the IAF also lost one Mig-21 Bison aircraft. The Indian government confirmed that an Indian pilot is in Pakistan's custody, but did not reveal his identity. India had also summoned Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah following the violation of airspace by Islamabad, and lodged a strong complaint against the act of aggression.

Earlier today, the DGCA issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route) saying that operations at the airports in Pathankot, Srinagar, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh, Shimla, Kullu Manali, Kangra, and Pithoragarh would be shut till further notice. But a few hours later it was withdrawn. The authorities allowed commercial operations to all the airports which were shut after Pakistan Air Force's F-16 fighter jets violated the Indian airspace
