Bengaluru, October 25: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting raids at the office of Amnesty International in Bengaluru. The raids are on since 2 pm today. The department is conducting raids in connection with the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) probe against Amnesty International India. According to reports, laptops, mobiles and other electronic gadgets were also seized during the raid. As per a report of The Hindu, which was published in August, the investigating agency was carrying out a probe into allegations that Amnesty International had violated the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act by transferring funds to its branch in India through commercial channels. The agency raided Amnesty’s office almost two weeks after it conducted raids on NGO Greenpeace, and other establishments associated with it and froze 12 accounts. The raids on the Greenpeace was conducted for allegedly violating foreign exchange rules. The ED alleged that the company received about Rs 29 crore as foreign investments since December 2016. However, The NGO refuted the charges.
