Srinagar, April 5: A scuffle broke out between a group of prisoners and the security officials at Central Jail in Srinagar on April 4. The incident took place after the jail inmates objected to repair and reinforcement work inside a barrack by the authorities. No one was reported to be injured in the scuffle. The scuffle broke out as the inmates perceived that they would be shifted to jails outside the state. According to reports, they set fire to gas cylinders that resulted in a blast. Jail property was also vandalized. Immediately after the incident, senior police officers and additional companies of paramilitary forces were rushed to the jail to bring the situation under control. In the wake of the incident, Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar. Security forces have also been deployed in the city as a precautionary measure. The situation is currently being monitored.
