New Delhi, Sep 28: The security cover of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah has been enhanced the Intelligence Bureau slotted him in the "high threat quotient" category. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) added an Advance Security Liasoning (ASL) component to the Shah's security cover, under which an advance team will scout places the BJP chief is going to visit.
A team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) provide round-the-clock proximity cover to Amit Shah, who is a Z-plus protectee. The ASL was conducted previously as well because he has the highest grade of security cover. However, now state police will have to compulsorily coordinate with Shah's security team and conduct detailed security checks at all places where he visits. “There were some occasions when there was a reluctance to carry out such checks. With the letter, we have ensured that the entire process is formalised and there is no scope for negligence. So, even if he goes for a book launch or a party meeting, there will be elaborate security arrangements,” a senior MHA official was quoted as saying.
Advance Security Liasoning is being conducted ahead of the visit of President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Various kinds of security cover -- SPG, Z-plus, Z, Y and X categories -- are provided to high-profile individuals. The home ministry decides the category to be provided after taking the threat level to the person into consideration.
