The top politician tweeted to inform his supporters and party cadres, further claiming that he hopes to recover at the earliest. The treatment is currently underway at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he is expected to remain admitted for the next couple of weeks.

Here is the update posted by Amit Shah:

Swine flu has emerged as one of the major fatal diseases in north India, with 36 deaths being reported so far this month in the state of Rajasthan.

The United States had issued an advisory last month for its citizens planning to visit India. The advisory categorically warned against entering Rajasthan, where the threat level was categorised as "severe".

Apart from Rajasthan, swine flu cases in large numbers have been detected in Delhi and Punjab as well. A 50-year-old woman in Amritsar was the latest to die earlier in the day, after contracting H1N1 virus. In the national capital, over 100 swine flu cases were detected until last month, with at least two succumbing to the infection.
