Pune, November 16: Traffic rule violators think twice! Pune Police commissioner K Venkatesham announced on Thursday that strict action will be taken against the traffic violators and using a helmet for two-wheelers will be mandatory from 1 January 2018, reported Times of India. This step is taken after the number of accidents are increasing in the city and people are losing their lives due to not wearing helmets. Pune-Mumbai Highway: 7 Killed, 3 Injured in Road Accident Near Lonavala.

“From January 1, we will come down heavily on those violating the rule,” said Venkatesham to TOI. He further added that we are giving time to people for being prepared before the rule is implemented. He further added, the number of deaths this year due to accidents stands to 211 people. He further added that if a person is found without a helmet he will have to pay Rs 200 fine at every junction he gets caught.

In the last three days, Pune city has witnessed three road accidents, on Tuesday, a 16-year-old teenager was killed and his friend was severely injured after they rammed into a truck while speeding at Mumbai-Bengaluru highway. In one case, a mother of five-month-old baby died after a speeding motorbike hit, while in another case, an elderly man lost his life in a road accident.
