Amarnath Yatra 2019: Civil Aviation Ministry Asks Airlines to Keep In-check Rising Airfares After Govt Suspends Pilgrimage

New Delhi, August 3: Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday asked all the airlines to control fares from Srinagar after the Jammu and Kashmir administration directed all the Amarnath pilgrims to leave the state immediately. Ministry of Civil Aviation tweeted, “Hon'ble Minister for Civil Aviation Shri @HardeepSPuri  has asked all the Airlines to rein in the surging Air Fares for pilgrims returning from Amarnath dham.” Panic gripped Amarnath Yatris the state on Friday issued an advisory asking pilgrims and tourists to leave the Valley "immediately". According to the Airport Authority of India a total of 6216 passengers were reported at Srinagar International Airport today, for travelling out of the valley.

As Amarnath Yatris are struggling to return to their respective states, Kashmiris have offered accommodation, food and travel assistance to the pilgrims. Kashmiris took to social media and posted their contact details. On Friday, the Jammu and Kashmir administration called off the annual Amarnath Yatra and asked devotees to curtail their pilgrimage citing reports of a possible terror attack targeting pilgrims. On Saturday, National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah met Governor Satya Pal Malik at his residence to discuss the prevailing situation in the valley.
