Mumbai, November 17: Renowned theatre personality and ad filmmaker Alyque Padamsee died in the early hours of Saturday. The 90-year-old artist breathed his last in Mumbai after reeling under age-related ailments. His demise has evoked tributes and sorrow from members of the artistic fraternity.

Actress Nimrat Kaur recalled Padamsee as a "true pioneer", whereas, TV personality Kunal Vijayakar said his demise has left a void which would be difficult to fill. Memorable Quotes On Theatre by Renowned Artists.

While Padamsee has several successful ad campaigns to his credit, including the highly successful "hamara bajaj", he would also be recalled as a stage artist par excellence and one of the pioneers of English theatre in India, along with Ebrahim Alkazi.

Padamsee is best known in India, as well as the West, for his role of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the iconic movie - Gandhi (1982). In 2000, he was accorded with the Padmashree awards to honour his contributions and achievement in the realm of theatre and production.
