Local media claimed that the protesters, who are affiliated to the ‎Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha, were attacked by members of rival political youth wings as the police allegedly looked on.

The protests came a day after another set of students, led by AUSU chief Avnish Yadav, staged a demonstration outside the library gate demanding the V-C's resignation. The agitators were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police from the campus, acting on the complaint of AU proctor Prof RS Dubey.

While the students were released on personal bond, the proctor wrote to the Colonelganj police, seeking FIR against the protesters for disrupting public order. The complaint letter names 10 students leaders for spreading anarchy in the varsity.
