Lucknow, April 18: The Uttar Pradesh police earlier this week conducted raids at Allahabad University hostels and recovered crude bombs, raw materials and several other things. The incident has raised concerns about the security of a large number of students studying and residing there. Reports inform that materials used in making crude bombs, a fake pistol and large number of empty liquor bottles were recovered from two hostels- Tarachand and PCB Hostels in Allahabad University (AU) campus on Wednesday. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the raid was followed the murder of a former student Rohit Shukla at PC Bannerjee Hostel on Sunday. Allahabad University Students Attacked on Campus While Protesting Against Vice Chancellor.

At least 13 youths were found illegally living in the hostel and were found suspicious were also detained for questioning. The report informs that the raids were conducted by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawans at the two hostels. At least 106 rooms, which were occupied by illegal inmates at both hostels, were sealed by AU proctor RS Dubey with several officials. Police arrested the driver of student leader Abhishek Singh alias Michael, who was illegally living at the Tarachand Hostel.

The Allahabad High Court had taken cognisance of the recent spike in the number of crimes in the district. The report quoted SP city Brajesh Kumar Srivastava saying that at least 58 rooms were sealed in Tarachand Hostel and 20 motorcycles and a car were taken to the police station. The team sealed at least 43 rooms, which were suspected to be occupied by illegal inmates and miscreants. Police also seized a car and some motorcycles from the hostel campus.
