Lucknow, July 9: Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh has said that he has written to UP Governor Ram Naik to consider changing the name of Allahabad to Prayag. The health minister also said that Governor Ram Naik, during his stint as Member of Parliament from Maharashtra had helped in changing the name of Bombay to Mumbai. Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay, had its named changed in the year 1995, when the Shiv Sena- BJP alliance formed a government in Maharashtra.
Here is what minister Sidharth Nath Singh said to news agency ANI while talking about the plans to rename Allahabad:

Earlier too, there have been plans and controversies over changing names of places since the BJP led NDA government came to power in 2014. The name of Mughalsarai station in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh has been changed to Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction. The Aurangzeb road in Delhi was also renamed as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
