New Delhi, July 27: All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has called off the nationwide strike after seven days on Friday. AIMTC Secretary YS Malik thanked the transporters for calling off the strike. While interacting with media, Malik said, “Their role in keeping the economy on track is integral. We'll try our best to solve their problems at the earliest. I would like to thank the community for calling off the strike.”
The AIMTC had started its protest on July 20 against the constant increase in diesel prices, uncontrollable toll expenses, GST compliance issues, practical problems with e-way bills and some other issues. Most transporters from Maharashtra had supported the strike. According to reports, the transporters' body and the road ministry will soon issue a joint statement regarding the development.

Essential commodities such as vegetables, fruits, milk were kept out of the strike. AIMTC Core Committee Chairman Bal Malkit Singh claimed that the transporters' loss stood at Rs 28,000 crore in the seven days and urged government's intervention for tangible resolution of the issues. The strike has affected the automobile industry.
