Kolkata, September 8: Three girls who had gone missing in Murshidabad earlier this week were found over 220 kilometres away from their homes on Thursday. The teenage girls were found at Shalimar station, where they were attempting to embark on a journey to South Korea to meet the popular K-pop group BTS.
According to the Times of India report, three girls, aged 15 to 17, were rescued by police officers from Santragacchi and Shalimar GRP around 2:30 a.m. They were found in a waiting room at the railway station. Allegedly, two women had advised them to take an afternoon train to Mumbai, where they could catch a flight to Seoul to meet their favourite K-pop band, BTS. The police are also investigating whether there is a human trafficking gang involved in sending the girls to Mumbai. The police discovered that the three girls, who attend the same school in Beldanga and are in classes IX and XI, had left their homes to attend a Teacher's Day program at their school. Instead, they took a train to Kolkata. They left with extra clothes and had taken some money from their homes. None of them have passports. The girls used to create short videos and reels on social media and are big fans of the K-pop band. They reportedly left home with hopes of becoming background dancers for the band's shows.
The police said that after leaving their homes, the girls first arrived at Sealdah station. From there, they took a taxi to Salt Lake and tried to stay at a guest house. However, they were not given a room, so they returned to Sealdah station and stayed there for the night. Reportedly, the parents had filed a complaint with the police. The Murshidabad police started tracking one of the girl's phone locations using the phone towers. They found that she was in Kolkata and informed the police at GRP and various police stations in Kolkata, Howrah, and Bidhannagar. A police officer said that they discovered some phone numbers on one of the girls' phones, and they are now trying to follow these numbers to find more clues in the case.
