Aligarh, June 10: Amid allegations of lax response levelled against the UP Police officials in Aligarh's Tappal where the deceased two-year-old girl Twinkle Sharma went missing on May 30, the state government has ordered the transfer of Khair Circle Officer Pankaj Shrivastava. The move comes amid an ongoing unrest in Tappal region, where locals have expressed their angst against the police. After Aligarh Horror, 11-Year-Old Girl Found Raped and Murdered in Hamirpur
Shrivastava has now been deputed to Atrauli, whereas, Sanjiv Dikshit, the CO of Aligarh City, has been transferred to Khair.
Meanwhile, internet has been reportedly clamped down in Tappal region till midnight in a bid to prevent mobilisation of agitating locals.
The toddler, Twinkle Sharma, went missing on May 30. Despite approaching the police on same day, a case was not registered till at least 24 hours. A search operation was launched after the FIR was filed.
The girl's body was found on June 5, buried in a semi-dug grave covered with bushes. Rumours had been circulated that the toddler was raped before being killed. The autopsy report, however, ruled out sexual assault.
Within a day after the girl's body was recovered, the police arrested the main accused - Aslam and Zahid. Both were neighbours of the deceased and killed her over personal enmity with her father and grandfather.
The manner in which the girl was murdered, with her hand being broken and eyes being gouged out before killing her, has sparked outrage across the nation.
The UP government has been appealed by locals to fast-track the case and award death penalty to all the perpetrators at the earliest.
