Jaipur, September 24: A probe into the alleged "bribery racket" at the Ajmer Central Jail has brought shocking details to the fore, said an official of the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while speaking to reporters. Inmates from rich background were being provided "VIP facilities" at Rs 8 lakh per month, the ACB official said on the condition of anonymity. He was further reported as saying by HT that influential inmates were being provided banned substances in lieu of high amount of bribes. A packet of cigarette is charged at between Rs 12,000-15,000, whereas, tobacco is being provided to them at a cost of Rs 300-500, he said.
The ACB has so far arrested four people in connection of the bribery racket, including former Jaswant Singh and three middlemen—Rajendra Choudhary, Anil Choudhary and Sita Ram. The latter trio are charged of collecting money for Singh from the family members of the VIP inmates.
The money was collected in both cash and online mode. At least 18 bank accounts have been identified and freezed, the ACB official said, adding that more accounts could come under scanner in the next few days.
More details in the case are to emerge as the investigation is far from closure. The bribery racket was busted by the ACB in July this year, and the investigators are likely to make more arrests in the days to come. The ambit of the probe could be widened as reports said that similar complaints of VIP facilities have emerged from other major jails in the state as well.
