Ajmal Kasab, Hanged For 26/11 Mumbai Attacks, Issued Domicile Certificate in UP

Lucknow, November 18: In a shocking incident of professional negligence, Bidhuna tehsil in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district issued a domicile certificate of Ajmal Kasab, a convict in 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Notably, Pakistani national Ajmal Kasab has been hanged at Yerwada jail in Pune on November 21, 2012. Following the revelation, the district administration cancelled cancelled the domicile certificate and suspended the concerned lekhpal (revenue officer).
According to Pravendra Kumar, SDM Bidhuna, some unidentified men submitted fake documents in October for issuance of a domicile certificate of Ajmal Kasab. "The authorities, without cross-checking the facts, issued the domicile certificate on October 21," Kumar told TOI. He added that a probe has been ordered into the incident, and the National Informatics Centre has cancelled the domicile certificate. As per the details written on the domicile certificate, terrorist Ajmal Kasab’s birth place is mentioned as Bidhuna. The certificate, which bore registration no:181620020060722, mentioned Mohammad Amir as his father and Mumtaz Begum as his mother.
“When we found this discrepancy, we cross-checked the facts at tehsil office, besides at the given address and found that the certificate was fake. We have suspended the concerned lekhpal on whose verification report the domicile certificate was issued," the SDM was quoted as saying.
At least 166 Indians and foreigners were killed in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks blamed on 10 Pakistani terrorists. One of them, Ajmal Kasab, was caught and hanged. On 3 May 2010, a trial court found Kasab guilty of 80 offences, including murder, waging war against India, possessing explosives, and other charges. The same trial court sentenced him to death, which was upheld by the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.
