New Delhi, October 2: National passenger carrier Air India will suspend some allowances given to its cabin crew if they turn up late for flights. Cabin crew will lose overseas allowance if they don't report on time. Moreover, they will have to bear the transportation cost incurred by the airline on their office pick-up cab, reported a leading daily.
“All cabin crew who do not report for scheduled flight will fly only domestic routes for a year. The cost incurred in sending transport to their residence will also be recovered from them," read an order issused by Air India. Only domestic flights means the cabin crew will lose its overseas allowance. The strict directives have been issued 'to reduce cost'. On Monday, Air India also decided that its cabin crew will stay in three star hotel in India and abroad. “It has been decided henceforth that cabin crew will stay in three star hotel in India and abroad. All fresh tender for cabin crew (hotel accommodation) will be only for three star hotels throughout AI network. This may be strictly followed," the airline said. Air India has also offered cabin crew of Boeing 777 and 787 a transfer to Delhi (main hub for these aircraft). All these steps have been taken for cost-cutting following the latest 7.3 per cent hike in jet fuel prices.
