Mumbai, October 15: An air hostess of an Air India flight fell off an aircraft while opening its door on Monday. Flight attendant Harsha Lobo fell off Air India's Boeing 777 aircraft when it was parked at Mumbai airport. Lobo suffered multiple fractures and was rushed to Nanavati hospital where her condition is said to be critical.
Air India flight AI86 was scheduled to depart for Delhi at 7:00 am. Lobo was opening Boeing 777's L5 door to allow the step ladder to align with the door. There was a gap, and she slipped. Lobo fell onto the tarmac. The door of the Boeing 777 is about 30 feet above the ground. Her right leg sustained grievous injuries. According to Nanavati hospital, Lobo is suffering from right leg compound fracture, fracture in both heels and soft tissue injury in chest, abdomen and lower spine. She also suffered from a sprain in the neck (cervical spine). She is being treated under Dr Prakash M Doshi, Director of Orthopedics and Traumatology and is currently under observation.
“In an unfortunate incident today, one of our cabin crew Ms.Harsha Lobo, operating flight AI-864, BOM-DEL, fell down on tarmac from B777 aircraft door L5 while closing it. She sustained injuries to her legs and has been taken to Nanavati hospital for further treatment," the airline said in a statement. Air India is enquiring into the incident. The flight departed for Delhi after over an hour's delay.
