New Delhi, May 28: Air Chief Marshal Barinder Singh Dhanoa will take over as the Chairman, Chiefs of Staffs Committee (COSC) from Admiral Sunil Lanba. The Naval chief is retiring on May 31. Chairman, COSC is the senior most defence officer in the country and looks after tri-services matters of the armed forces.
After Admiral Lanba’s retirement, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh is appointed as the next Chief of Naval Staff (CNS). Singh will take the charge on May 31, 2019. Singh, currently the Vice Chief of Naval Staff was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1980.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command Vice Admiral Bimal Verma had approached an armed forces tribunal seeking to know why he was overlooked as the next navy chief despite being the senior-most in the line of command. However, earlier this May, the Defence Ministry rejected the plea of Vice Admiral Verma, who had challenged the appointment of Vice Admiral Singh as the next Chief of the Indian Navy.
