Following the discovery of Reshma ’s body on May 17, her husband had blamed Shaikh for being involved in the murder. In a complaint, the victim's husband claimed that AIMIM leader had murdered his wife after she asked him to repay a loan of Rs 13 lakhs that he borrowed from her two years ago. "Shaikh was furious about the police case and plotted her murder. He suggested discussing the matter at her house on the outskirts of the city on National Highway 50. He took her there in his Innova,” the victim’s husband claimed.
According to some reports, Reshma on April 17 had lodged a molestation complaint against the murder accused. Cops suspected that the complaint could have provoked Shaikh to murder the 35-year-old Congress leader.
