Ahmedabad, January 17: The Amdavad Shopping Festival (ASF) 2019 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. The fest, aimed at promoting trade, business and consumerism, will continue till January 28, overlapping the Republic Day weekend. In a bid to encourage footfall from across the state, PM Modi visited the exhibition ground and bought a khadi jacket from a government stall.
The jacket was purchased by the Prime Minister from the stall put up by the Khadi & Village Industries Board. Further, to promote his Digital India campaign, Modi used the RuPay card for payment.

Addressing an official event earlier in the day, PM Modi highlighted the steps taken by his government to boost trade and provide an environment robust for growth for the small and medium scale enterprises.
"The central government is helping the micro, small and medium enterprises, which account for 40 per cent of India's exports, in every way," he said, further claiming that his economic policies has aided in the generation of "crores of jobs" over the last four-and-a-half years.
