Ahmedabad, October 22: A retired banker died by suicide after consuming poison at his home on October 15 in Chandkheda, Ahmedabad. The 72-year-old man was reportedly driven to this tragic step after being blackmailed for over 30 years by a woman who threatened to falsely accuse him of rape. In a suicide note, the victim revealed that he had paid at least INR 1 crore to the woman and her family to prevent the accusation. His son, who is also a banker, found him unconscious and rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

The case came to light on the morning of October 15, the victim's wife discovered that he had locked himself in his room and was unresponsive. According to a report by The Times of India, the banker, who retired 10 years ago, had been a victim of blackmail for over three decades, paying an estimated INR 1 crore to the accused woman from Adalaj and her family. The suicide note left behind by the victim provided detailed information about the financial transactions, including the bank account details of the woman and her relatives, where the extorted money had been deposited. His son, after receiving the distress call, rushed to the house and forced open the door to find his father unconscious. Despite immediate medical attention, the retired banker was declared dead at a private hospital. The police, following the FIR and the contents of the suicide note, registered a case of abetment to suicide against the woman and five of her family members, who are now under investigation.
