Ahmedabad, July 28: A 34-year-old man from Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej was shocked to discover that his wife, who had been struggling to conceive, was actually over 40 years old, contrary to the 32 years stated on their marriage documents. This revelation came through a sonography report during a medical consultation.

TOI reported that the man had married his wife in June 2023, believing her to be born on May 18, 1991. Upset by the deception, he approached Vejalpur police, who registered an FIR against eight individuals, including his wife, her father, and other relatives. According to the FIR, the man was introduced to his future wife in May 2023, and their marriage was arranged for June 19, 2023. Her family insisted on a village wedding in Palanpur and delayed providing proof of her age and education. On the wedding day, her school leaving certificate and passport were presented, showing her birthdate as May 18, 1991.

Months later, after failing to conceive, the couple consulted a gynaecologist in Paldi, who confirmed the wife’s true age through sonography. Further investigation revealed that her brothers had altered her birth date on official documents from May 18, 1985, to May 18, 1991.

The husband also alleged that his wife frequently visited her parents' house, taking valuable items given by him and his family. The case is under investigation as the police verify the claims and gather more evidence.
