Lucknow, January 2: Farmer Pradeep Sharma, harvested over 19 tonnes of potatoes at his modest farm in Nagla Nathu village of Agra district, profited by only Rs 490 after selling his entire crop. In disgust, he sent the entire amount in form of a money order to Prime Minister's Office.

Sharma, while speaking to reporters, said he expects Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take cognizance of his plight, and take immediate measures to ensure that potato farmers in Uttar Pradesh receive the minimum support price as promised by the central government. PMO Returns Money-Order of Maharashtra Farmer Who Got Pittance for Onions.

While speaking to reporters, Sharma said the Centre wants to hike the MSP by 150 per cent, but the "corrupt officials of the agricultural department" have failed to implement the measures on the ground.

He also claimed that the insurance department is resorting to irregularities and not paying the beneficiary farmers the amount entitled to them.

Sharma had earlier, in July, also written to the President and Prime Minister seeking permission to commit euthanasia or passive suicide. However, he received no response.

The embattled farmer had also written in the past few months to the UP Deputy Chief Minister, seeking action against the "corrupt officials" of the agricultural department. With the same demand, he had also approached the district magistrate.
