Bengaluru, February 23: During the ongoing Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Aero India Show in Bengaluru, February 23, 2019, was observed as ‘Aero India Women’s Day’ where the contribution of women in aviation is celebrated. As part of the air display, women pilots will fly aircraft. The IAF tweeted, “The spell binding machines & operators of IAF are mesmerising the audience at Aero India 2019. 23rd Feb 19, is dedicated to 'Women in Aviation' & IAF is being represented by Women Officers from varied ranks & branches.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Indian star shuttler PV Sindhu took a sortie in Hindustan Aeronautical Limited’s (HAL) Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas at the ongoing Aero India air show. Sindhu co-piloted the Tejas aircraft as part of the Women's Day to be observed at the air show. Today, the IAF women skydiving team took also part in the show. The five-member team of IAF led by Wg Cdr Asha Jyothirmai and trained by Wg Cdr Vishal Lakhesh celebrated the theme of “Women in Aviation Sector" by performing stunts. “This Air Devil team is a combination of experience and zestful greenhorns,” tweeted the IAF. On Friday, A panel discussion on 'Women in Aviation', comprising of women in defence and related sectors was hosted at Aero India. The IAF was represented by Gp Capt Shakti Sharma and S/L Khushboo Gupta. Meanwhile reports also surfaced that Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams will also fly LCA Tejas. Aero India 2019 is Asia’s largest military aviation exhibition. The exhibition is being held at Yelahanka Air Force base in Bengaluru
