Mumbai, September 27: A 34-year-old man has been booked for allegedly throwing acid on his wife’s face in Mumbai’s Malvani area after she confronted him about his extramarital affair and sought a divorce. The victim, Yasmeen Khan, 27, is currently receiving treatment for severe burns at Cooper Hospital.

Indian Express reported that the couple, who had a love marriage in 2019, began facing issues when Yasmeen discovered her husband, Shabir Khan, was unemployed, addicted to drugs, and involved in an affair. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Shabir Khan forcibly entered Yasmeen's mother’s house. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Khan seized her phone and her brother’s phone before throwing an acid-like chemical on her face and fleeing the scene. Malvani police have registered a case against Shabir Khan under sections 124(2), 311, 333, and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police officer stated that the hunt for Khan is ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far. Yasmeen continues to receive medical care for her injuries.

In a similar incident, a man from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior orchestrated the murder of his wife as he was fed up of her extravagant spending. The husband, Hemant Sharma, enlisted the help of his friends, paying Rs 2.5 lakh to carry out the attack, police said. The incident, which initially appeared to be a road accident, occurred on August 13 and was uncovered by police investigations ten days later.
