ABVP Asks DUSU President Ankiv Baisoya to Resign Over Allegations of Faking Bachelor's Degree
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday asked, Delhi University Student Union president Ankiv Baisoya to resign from his post. Baisoya was accused of falsifying his bachelor's degree.
New Delhi, November 15: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday asked, Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya to resign from his post. Baisoya was accused of falsifying his bachelor's degree. The organisation also relieved him of all the responsibilities till the enquiry into the allegation against him is over. The ABVP, student organisation of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), has confirmed in a statement that Baisoya has been expelled. Earlier, on October 30, the Delhi Court had granted the university time till Monday to verify the degree. The court also directed the university to inform it about the authenticity of Baisoya’s degree as the two-month period within which re-election could be held would expire on November 13. But on Monday, it further extended the time allotted to Delhi University till November 20 to verify if the former DUSU president's bachelor’s degree from a university in Tamil Nadu is genuine.
In the election, which was held on September 12, Basoya was elected as the president of the DUSU. Meanwhile, ABVP’s Shakti Singh won the post of vice president, and Jyoti Choudhary has bagged the position of joint secretary. National Student Union of India’s candidate Akash Choudhary won the post of secretary. This year's election was a contest between Congress-backed NSUI, ABVP and the alliance of All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) student wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS).
