Mumbai, November 19: A screening of superstar Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Thugs of Hindostan movie delayed the sealing of a theatre in Mumbai's Bandra area on Saturday. The government officials had to wait till the Thugs of Hindostan reached to its climax. After the film came to an end, the cinema hall was sealed for default in repaying a bank loan.
When a five-member team from the court commissioner’s office arrived at RNA’s Play Cinema in Bandra (east), they had no clue what kind of hurdle they would face. The officials were compelled to delay the sealing as the cinema hall was packed for a show of Thugs of Hindostan. They had to wait as they were not accompanied by police personnel either. “The theatre was packed to capacity when we reached there. We had not taken along any police personnel for protection, but we took possession of the premises despite some minor resistance," court commissioner Sunil Pandey told a leading daily. The theatre was sealed after the owners failed to repay a loan of Rs 35 crore to Dena Bank. Late Anil Kumar Aggarwal and his legal heirs — Saranga Aggarwal, Gokul Aggarwal, Anubhav Aggarwal and Neha Aggarwal— had borrowed money against secured assets. They, RNA, defaulted in repayment, and eventually, its account was classified as a ‘non-performing asset’. A notice was issued in 2016, but the borrowers did not repay the outstanding amount of Rs 29.24 crore.
Following the non-payment, the court commissioner sealed RNA’s Play Cinema. This is for the third time that RNA’s immovable asset has been sealed. In October, three floors of RNA’s headquarters in Bandra (east) were sealed. In March RNA Corp’s upcoming project of 101 flats in Malad were sealed for defaulting on the loan.
