Aadhaar Usage Declines Over 40% in June From a Record 1.48 Billion Authentications in September 2017

The report further informs that after touching a peak of 1.48 billion in September, Aadhaar authentications fell to 1.46 billion in October.

New Delhi, July 2: The usage of 12-digit unique identity number has seen an unprecedented drop in June as compared to September last year. According to details on the UIDAI website, the usage of Aadhaar number has declined about 42 per cent to 859 million from a record 1.48 billion authentications in September 2017. So far, more than 1.2 billion Aadhaar numbers have been generated so far.

In June this year, Aadhaar usage dropped to the lowest level, falling over 40% from record 1.48 billion authentications done during September 2017. According to a report by Economic Times, the usage of Aadhaar has declined every month since September, except in March, when they rose to 1.125 billion from 996 million in February. The report further informs that after touching a peak of 1.48 billion in September, Aadhaar authentications fell to 1.46 billion in October.

It must be noted that the drop was found nearly three months after the Supreme Court extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with various services and facilities. The Apex Court which resumed after its summer break on Monday is soon expected to rule on the matter.

By using Aadhaar for authentication process means, an individual uses Aadhaar to avail of a service by submitting biometrics details. The report further informs that last July, 966 million Aadhaar authentications were done and the figure crossed 1billion last August.

Reports inform that nearly 900 million bank accounts and 900 million mobile phones have been linked with Aadhaar after the government first set a deadline of March 31, 2018. Reports inform that the demographic authentication also dropped to 78 per cent (170 mn) from last September 741.6 million.
