New Delhi, September 26: According to the recent verdict by the Supreme Court of India, schools cannot refuse admission to students for the lack of Aadhaar. The decision has been taken based on some previous cases where few schools had denied admission to children in absence of Aadhaar. The bench of judges while giving a verdict on the Aadhaar case said that it's not mandatory to carry Aadhaar for admission to school boards such as CBSE and for competitive exams like NEET. Aadhaar Linking With Bank Account and Mobile Number Not Mandatory, Must For PAN, Rules Supreme Court.

The five-judge bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra is hearing a batch of petitions challenging Aadhaar. While SC declared Aadhaar scheme to be constitutionality valid, the justice further added that Aadhaar can't be insisted upon in schools. Section 33(2) and Section 57 of the Aadhaar Act have been struck down. Aadhar Verdict: Congress Welcomes Supreme Court's Decision To Strike Down Section 57 of Aadhar Act.

School admissions are not a benefit under Section 7 so Aadhaar cannot be mandated for the same, says Supreme Court.

Empowering the validity of Aadhaar, the court stated that “Aadhaar empowers the marginalised section of the society and gives them an identity; Aadhaar is also different from other ID proofs as it can't be duplicated".
