Ranchi, February 8: In another incident of Aadhaar data misuse, a businessman in Jharkhand was shocked to find that a ghost (duplicate) Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card (red card) was made in the name of his wife. According to reports, the fake ration card was made using the man's Aadhaar card details. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the incident was reported from East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand earlier this week. Aadhaar for Dead People? The report further informs that mobile showroom owner in Jamshedpur's Parsudih area, identified as Manoj Barnwal had submitted a written request to cancel the ration card and delink his Aadhaar number from it. N Kumar, East Singhbhum district supply officer was quoted in the report saying there have been many anomalies in linking of Aadhaar numbers with ration cards. Most cases are related to many ration cards being linked to a single Aadhaar number.

According to the HT report, Barnwal was quoted in the report saying that he came to know about the ghost ration card when he noticed that a subsidy of Rs 35 for kerosene oil was being credited into his bank account every month. “The card is in my wife Reena Kumari’s name, though we have no red ration card in my family,” Barnwal said. The report further informs that the card is related to PDS dealer Vinod Kumar Singh and shows 4 people of his Barnwal’s family listed as beneficiaries. Aadhaar Declared Constitutionally Valid by Supreme Court, But It's Not Mandatory to Link it With Bank Accounts, Mobile Numbers.

Earlier this week, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar to all the citizens of India, said that it is not technically and legally feasible to use the 12-digit Aadhaar biometrics for forensic purposes that include the identification of dead persons.
