New Delhi, December 26: Over 1.25 crore residents of India now have Aadhaar card, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced on Thursday. In a series of tweets, the UIDAI further said that the use of Aadhaar card for identity purpose is "rapidly increasing". The agency also listed a slew of measures, including launch of mAadhaar mobile app, taken to strengthen the enrolment and updation systems. "Now 125 crore residents of India have Aadhaar. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced a new milestone achieved by the Aadhaar project – crossing of the 125 crore mark. This means that over 1.25 billion residents of India have the 12-digit unique identity," read one of the tweets by UIDAI (sic). "The achievement comes along with the rapidly increasing use of Aadhaar as the primary identity document by the Aadhaar holders," the UIDAI added. This is evident from the fact that Aadhaar-based authentication services have been used close to 37,000 crore times since inception. UIDAI processes nearly 3 crore authentication requests per day. 4/6

This means that on an average about 3-4 lakh Aadhaar updates are processed everday.

The agency said that it was handling lakhs of updation requests daily by Aadhaar card holders. "UIDAI recorded close to 331 crore successful Aadhaar updates (biometric and demographic) till date. This means that on an average about 3-4 lakh Aadhaar updates are processed everday (sic)," read another tweet. In order to help people to update details in Aadhaar cards, several Aadhaar Seva Kendras are functional in different parts of the country.
"For this, UIDAI announced the Aadhaar Seva Kendra project in March 2019. As part of the 114 planned Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) across the country, UIDAI has operationalized 28 exclusive Aadhaar Seva Kendra," the UIDAI said. These ASKs have the capacity to handle up to 1000 service requests per day and are open on all 7 days. Residents can book online appointment or walk-in to the centre for Aadhaar services," it added.
The UIDAI said that the mAadhaar mobile app offers more than 35 services related to Aadhaar card updation. Besides, a chatbot called "Ask Aadhaar" is also functional with support from artificial intelligence to address queries.
