Mumbai, December 31: In a shocking incident from the city, a 34-year-man was harassed after someone posted a copy of the Aadhaar card on the website. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the victim Ameya Dhapre had enrolled for an Aadhaar in 2012, three years later Mundhva police turned up at his residence suspecting that he was harassing a woman over the phone.
In order to record the statement, he had to travel all the way to Pune. However, it was later found out that someone used Dhapre's Aaadhar number to get the KYC done in order to get a new mobile connection, using which, he was harassing the woman. Victims of these fraudsters turned up on his door several times and demanded money from him and threatened him of dire consequences.
He also contacted the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and was informed that his Aadhar number couldn't be changed, but it can be cancelled. Doing which, he would fall into trouble because it was linked to his legitimate accounts as well. He then filed a complaint with the Bandra Kurla Cyber cell and requested them to remove the copies.
