Srinagar, October 22: Nearly 4.5 lakh government employees working in the existing State of Jammu & Kashmir will now get salaries and are entitled to avail several benefits from October 31 as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. The government is set to spend Rs 4800 crore tentatively on the various allowances which will benefit all the Central government employees. The Union Home Ministry has issued orders in this regard.
According to an official release, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the proposal of payment of all 7th CPC allowances to the Government employees of UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, which shall come into existence from October 31, 2019. According to a government release, the annual financial implication of 7th CPC allowances will include Children Education Allowance, Hostel Allowance, Transport Allowance, LTC, Fixed Medical Allowance etc.
In his address to the nation on August 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that all the financial facilities being given to the employees of other Union Territories (UT), as per the recommendations of 7th CPC, would soon be extended to the employees of the two UTs- Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

On August 5, the central government had announced the abrogation of the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and its bifurcation into two UTs. On August 9, President Ram Nath Kovind had given the assent to a legislation for bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, and two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. As per legislation, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislature like Puducherry and Ladakh will be a UT like Chandigarh, without legislature.
