Mumbai, January 4: Central government employees under the 7th pay commission may receive some good news soon as the Centre is likely to take decisions on Dearness Allowance hike, release of DA arrears and HRA hike among others. Since a long time, Central government employees have been demanding a hike in house rent allowance.

The demand to raise HRA hike gained momentum after the Centre increased dearness allowance by 4 percent for government employees, thereby taking DA to 38 percent. While rumours claim that decision son DA hike and others could be taken before Budget 2023, there has been no official announcement as yet. 7th Pay Commission News Today: 4% DA Hike, Change in Formula of Dearness Allowance Calculation Likely on Holi 2023.

Meanwhile, a report in the Financial Express has claimed that the Department of Expenditure (DOE) under the Ministry of Finance has issued revised guidelines with regards to granting House Rent Allowance (HRA) to Central Government employees. As per the revised rules, a Central government employee will not be entitled for HRA in certain cases and these are as follows.

  • If an employee shares government accommodation allotted to another employee.
  • If an employee stays in the accommodation allotted to their parents/son/daughter by the Central and State Government, or semi-Government Organization such as Municipality, Port Trust, Nationalized Banks, Life Insurance Corporation of India among others.
  • If an employee's spouse has been allotted government accommodation at the same station and if they reside in that accommodation or they stay separately in accommodation rented by them. 7th Pay Commission: DA Hike, Increase in Fitment Factor Likely on Holi in March 2023? According to DOE's Office Memorandum dated December 30, 2022, the HRA will be 24 percent for employees working in 'X' category cities while for those working in 'Y' category cities it is 16 percent. On the other hand, the HRA rate as per the 7th CPC is 8 percent for employees of 'Z' category cities.
