New Delhi, July 7: A meeting of Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is likely to take place today. According to reports, the Union Cabinet may take a final call on restoration of dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners. The Centre has not released three installments of DA for central government employees and DR for pensioners, due on January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021. It was earlier reported that the pending installments of DA and DR would be restored from July. However, no such directives have been issued so far. The latest reports regarding the 7th Pay Commission say the DA and DR benefits would be restored in September. Shiv Gopal Mishra, who negotiated the 7th Pay Commission recommendations with the Centre on behalf employees, informed about the due procedure for the restoration of DA and DR benefits. Mishra said that the Ministry of Finance will send a proposal for resumption of DA and DR benefits to the Union Cabinet. Once the Union Cabinet clears it, DA and DR benefits, as recommended by the 7th Pay Commission, will be restored.
PM Narendra Modi is going to expand his Cabinet of Ministers this evening. A meeting of newly-inducted ministers is likely to happen today. Reports suggest the Union Cabinet will make a decision whether or not DA and DR benefits would be restored.
