New Delhi, November 6: The central government may soon announce a hike of Rs 8000 in minimum pay for its employees under the 7th Pay Commission or 7th CPC. According to a report by India.com, a cabinet meeting will take place after November 10. Some major decisions would be made at the meeting, including a raise for central government employees under the 7th Pay Commission, the report added. The likely salary hike which would increase the purchasing power of people is seen as an attempt to revive the market amid the economic slowdown.
Under the 7th Pay Commission, central government employees get Rs 18,000 as minimum pay with fitment factor 2.57 times. Employees have been asking to raise minimum pay to Rs 26,000 and fitment factor 3.68 times. There were reports that the government would announce a hike before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. However, no such announcement was made. Similar reports surfaced before Diwali but the government did not announce a hike in minimum pay. 7th Pay Commission: Indian Coast Guard Issues Notification For Filling Posts of Naviks; Selected Candidates to Get Rs 21,700 Monthly Salary Under 7th CPC.
The government, however, increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) before Diwali festivities. In March 2018, then Minister of State Finance, P Radhakrishnan had told Rajya Sabha that the government was not considering a hike in minimum pay and fitment factor beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. "The minimum pay of Rs.18,000/- p.m. and fitment factor of 2.57 are based on the specific recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission in the light of the relevant factors taken into account by it. Therefore, no change therein is at present under consideration," he said in a written reply. The government has been silent on the issue since.
