67 Girls Found in Rajsamand Hotel Raid Are 'Hypnotised', Refuse to Reveal Whereabouts

Jaipur, July 5: The counseling of 67 girls found in the raid on a hotel in Rajasthan's Rajsamand has failed to yield results as they are "hypnotised", claimed the State's Child Rights Panel.

The girls have been sent to the Balika Grah (children's home), where they are staying under the protection of state police personnel, said panel member Bhavna Paliwal.

Paliwal said the panel has been approached by over a dozen people claiming to be parents of some of the girls found from the hotel. But, she said, they cannot be trusted and are suspected to be linked with the controversial ashram, based in the hotel from where the girls were rescued.

The panel will continue to counsel the girls and seek rational answers from on their whereabouts.

"They don't want to speak on any subject. They are neither asking for food nor are speaking the facts but instead screaming at us saying they have been here on their own wish and will," Paliwal said.

The father of a Dholpur girl who went absconding told the panel that her daughter was hypnotised three years ago by the ashram authorities to the extent where she could not remember her ties with the parents and siblings.

"She is now 14 and doesn't want to return. He also doesn't know who runs this ashram," Paliwal said.

According to a police official privy to the case, the 67 girls found in the ashram belonged to a school in Abu Road from where they were sent to Rajsamand to attain spiritual education.

No information, however, is available on the owners and administrators of the ashram, as well as the hotel where it is based.

The police are also probing whether the girls are linked to the ashram of godman Daati Baba, who has been accused of raping a 25-year-old girl in Delhi.
