23-Year-Old Woman From Aurangabad Who Fought Caste Prejudice to Live With Partner, Commits Suicide in Pune
The man told police that he had agreed for an arranged marriage and the police suspect that this could be the reason for the girl's suicide.
Pune, November 16: The Pune Police is investigating a case where a 23-year-old commerce student killed herself by jumping from her house. The 23-year-old lived with her partner, said media reports. Her 25-year-old partner and she both belonged to Aurangabad and had relocated to Pune city about a couple of years ago. The English daily, Hindustan Times, quoted Assistant police inspector Ajitkumar Khatal of Sangavi police station saying that the statement of the girl's partner she used to live with, has been recorded. The police added that the statements of victim's mother will also be recorded by the police soon. However, an important revelation made by the officer in the report is that the families of both the boy and the girl were against the match. The man, victim's partner, informed the police that he belongs to the Nhavi caste while the girl was from Maratha caste.
The man reportedly worked in a multinational company and the victim was studying for her post-graduation via correspondence course. The man told police that he had agreed for an arranged marriage and the police suspect that this could be the reason for the girl's suicide. She jumped to death from the fifth floor, and was declared brought dead at Aundh Hospital. However, the police has registered a case of accidental death at the Sangvi police station.
