Hyderabad, August 27: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court on Monday postponed its judgement on the 2007 Hyderabad twin blasts case till September 4. The twin bomb blasts that took place at Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park in Hyderabad killed 42 and had left over 50 injured. According to reports, the trial against four accused in the bomb blast case was shifted to a court hall located in the premises of Cherlapalli Central Prison in Hyderabad from a court located in Nampally court complex in June this year.
On August 25, 2007, a blast at a popular eatery, Gokul Chat killed 32 people, while 10 more died at the open air theatre at Lumbini Park, a few metres from the state secretariat. According to a report by PTI, the Telangana Counter Intelligence (CI) cell that was probing the blast, had named seven persons as accused. During the investigation into the blasts, three separate chargesheets were filed and about 170 witnesses were examined and cross-examined during the trial.
The family members and relatives of the victims observed the 11th anniversary of the twin blasts that took place on August 25, 2007. Speaking to ANI, Raheem, a survivor, demanded strict punishment for those involved in the case. "Many leaders have promised action, but nothing has happened so far. We demand strict punishment for those involved. We've been waiting for this day for past 11 years, and hope we'll get justice," he said.
In August 2013, the second Metropolitan Sessions Judge court had framed charges against Aneeq Shafiq Syed, Mohammed Sadiq, Akbar Ismail Choudhary and Ansar Ahmed Badshah Sheikh - all alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives. The accused were charged under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and sections of Explosive Substances Act.
